Starving Babies of North Korea
October 25th 2006 08:45
BBC has a tedious roundup of North Koreans are going to starve even the minimal sanctions that have been put in place. But it has an interesting slip-up that's worth noting:
The WFP now operates in 13 counties in North Korea, feeding around half of the 1.9 million people it has identified as being in need of food aid.
But the organisation predicts that number could quickly rise to six million this winter.
North Koreans, particularly in the cities and towns, are almost entirely dependent on the state for food distribution.
And, if supplies are limited, the government will feed its military and high-ranking officials before the most needy, observers say.
What was that about the Left fighting for the poor and capitalism being a society for the rich?
Here's a government which is deliberately starving its own people and acquiring fancy weapons instead and BBC wants the rest of the world to keep it in existence? What about revolution, idealism and all that stuff? Yeah, since the government is Leftist nobody should even think of overthrowing it. And what the Left thinks as the basic function of a government, feeding people, should be done by other countries. But don't you touch the precious Kim Jong II.
