Everybody knows the French are bad
December 2nd 2006 07:07
Remember when Bill Clinton bombed an isolated Somalian factory saying that it was manufacturing chemical weapons? Remember the brouhaha that resulted from the strike? Every newspapers in the world saw it fit to print it on the front page.
Here's now newsreport that France launched an airstrikes in Central African Republic and except for one isolated news outlet reporting it, nobody seems to bother.
Recently, I met an African emigre from Burundi who who ranted that the US, specifically, George Bush was responsible for Rwanda massacre! I told, Rwanda happened long before George Bush. But he was adamant on his point that Rwanda happened because America did nothing to stop it.
That maybe as it is, after a few days of that discussion, there were huge protests in Rwanda itself against the French. It is also widely believed that the French armed and trained the gangs who carried out the Rwandan massacre. When I pointed out this to him, his only reaction was to shrug and say, " Everybody knows the French are bad."
Um, do they?
There was a huge uproar when Reagan governemnt supplied arms to the Nicaraguan rebels. The question is why do people who protest so loudly at the American involvement in the world turn a blind eye when other powers like France intervene in poor countries, train and supply arms to armed agangs, pull the carpet from under the feet of the governemnts and generally work to destabilise them? Think of Sudan and China. Think of France and half of Africa. think of Lebanon.
It's clear that France has unlimited licence when it comes to Africa.

Basically French people are pretty nice people... in some way... except the strange Parisians... that's what my good friend (who's French as well) commented.
But bottom line, it is the administration, not the country who has the heart of steel and the appitite to eat territory when it comes to politics and government.

I haven't met any French people myself but I am absolutley disgusted by their tactics and their politics. Hope somebody can correct that impression.

Is that justiied? I don't know. But isn't it curious that the French actions recieve so little attention. God knows what they are doing elsewhere in Africa.

One of them was a foreign exchange student who's smart but poor. Another was from an Asian family who migrated to France during war. So they both have went through pretty rough life and the friends they have (whom I met) was pretty nice and sober as well.
So, I guess it is back to the politics. But the pattern seemed familiar throughout those power countries, don't you agree?

Hey Jessicaa, I guess you can't issue a blanket criticism of an entire people. there will always be some nice French people. But as a major power, France sucks.
