"THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE LIVE IN IT TODAY"--AYN RAND

Dick Cheney protests were damp squibs

February 25th 2007 05:57
Dick Cheney has come and gone and what did I do? Well, the first two days I was madly scrambling to get a new computer and getting a new internet connection (I never realised it was so hard in Sydney) and on the third, I was badly out of service with a humoungously irritated eye( just thinking of which brings copious tears to my eyes). All in all, I missed the great man. I did not at least get to watch the cavalcade which I was hoping for very badly.

Must say the security arrangements were very impressive. From reading news and watching television, the whole of CBD shut down. My favorite was when a customer was locked out of her own hotel because Dick Cheney was staying at the hotel.

Now for the protests. Well, they have bene pasted on front pages from here to TImbuktoo, but for me they looked quite lame. I am quite sceptical about what people here call violence, having seen and been close to some real violence. Eight people were arrested and they call that violence? When George Bush went to India, eight people died ( or thirty). Now that's violence. By comparision, the Sydney protests are not even scuffles.

I watched once a real protest ( and they do happen in Sydney) when the Vietnamese were protesting a visiting Vietnam dignitary. The whole of CBD was filled up and by what I saw on TV, the Cheney protests didn't garner much more protesters either. But the Vietnamese didn't stop traffic, they did not taunt the police and did not break in any violence and to think the whole Sydney mafia ( yes there is one) is controlled by them ! That's protesting.

What Stop The War, the Greenies and others showed was that they lack in muscle and brains, they make up in shrillness.

Which brings us to back to me. I had desperately wanted to show my support to the Great Man but well I couldn't. I know, it makes me one of those people who spout big things but never follow up, what are they called? Still, this picture which I copied from Ace says it all :
