Bye Bye Free Trade
November 15th 2006 07:53
It is widely held that one reason Republicans so badly in the mid-terms is that libertarians and conservatives were disaffected against the "big-governement" policies of President Bush. Ironically, by not voting for GOP they have put the Democrats in the power.
They knew that the Dems were onto the minimum wage but their anti-globalization, government only agenda is just becoming clearer. This from Yahoo:
To hear some Democrats tell it, the United States is engaged in a costly, ill-advised foreign adventure that is long overdue for a change of course.
Not the war in Iraq. Globalization.
Several members of the Democratic Congress that takes office in January say the Bush administration's unquestioning celebration of free trade is bleeding the middle class and endangering the American Dream. Democrats such as Sen.-elect Sherrod Brown of Ohio want a tougher approach to future trade deals. Others, including veterans of the Clinton administration who back trade, say the solution is to craft new policies that take the sting out of job losses caused by foreign competition.
The House has just refused to sign a free trade deal with Vietnam, surprising given that it would be beneficial to US farmers. Bush is going to APEC meet without the deal so they pulled out Vietnam from the religious persecution blacklist.
Somehow, I get the feeling that the conservative bloggers are becoming like Koskids they hate so much. Such pretentiousness, unaccommodation and petulance can be found nowhere else.
Elsewhere, George Bush Sr. elsewhere has slammed the bloggers for incvility in politics.
You reap what you sow.
