"THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE LIVE IN IT TODAY"--AYN RAND

The League of Democracies

February 26th 2007 21:32
Over the last month the US has quitely persuaded both Czech republic and Poland to adopt the anti-missile shield and they both have grasped the opportunity with both hands. Putin has predictably yawyawed but the Czech Republic Prime Minister told him to stuff it in no uncertain terms. Britain too wanted it and Blair has lobbied Bush over the matter. Dunno whta's going to come of that but that's a welcome development. Romano Prodi resigned not just because of the opposition to Afghanistan involvement but also to the expanding US base on Italy. Now he is back in the business again, that little trick has helped him to cut the floor from under the left wing objector's feet. If anything, looks like the US base is going to happen.

Remember, this was the same Star Wars program that rocked the Euroweenies back when Ronald Reagan was president. Now that the Iran is fast building up missiles and nuclear bombs, they all are hankering after the American cover to duck under.

Guess the superpower has its uses huh?

Not only that Britain is sending more troops to Afghanisthan and Canada is actually fighting with France over the same issue. Isn't it curious that all these countries, including Australia, are quitely propping up the war effort in Afghanisthan?

For all those doommongers who say that American power has diminished under Bush watch, this is an eye-opener. Australia too is building more US bases and both Australia and Japan are hosting the defence shield too because of North Korea. Isn't it curious that none of these countries are approaching the so-called new superpower China? China might taunt, frustrate and irriate the US a bit but it daren't meddle with the US. And US power is alive and well and rapidle expanding around the globe and how. It is both a vindication of the US and George Bush.

There was a huge heartburn when Rumsfeld coined the term New Europe. France felt the whip of that term quiet keenly.

George Bush's democracy agenda may not fared as expected in the Arab world but its is actually bringing in a new force around the world. All the best democracies in the world are teaming up and moving closer under the American aegis. This might even mark the rise of a new world order, an order where all the young forward looking countries bond together as one, leaving behind the Obsolescent and the Obnoxious.( UN, NATO, Chia, France and the Mullahs) How cool is that.

Most pundits have pronounced the legcay of George Bush as dead even before his reign ends. But, in unnoticed subtle ways, he might leave behind a legacy greater than even Roosevelt or Reagan.

Dick Cheney protests were damp squibs

February 25th 2007 05:57
Dick Cheney has come and gone and what did I do? Well, the first two days I was madly scrambling to get a new computer and getting a new internet connection (I never realised it was so hard in Sydney) and on the third, I was badly out of service with a humoungously irritated eye( just thinking of which brings copious tears to my eyes). All in all, I missed the great man. I did not at least get to watch the cavalcade which I was hoping for very badly.

Must say the security arrangements were very impressive. From reading news and watching television, the whole of CBD shut down. My favorite was when a customer was locked out of her own hotel because Dick Cheney was staying at the hotel.

Now for the protests. Well, they have bene pasted on front pages from here to TImbuktoo, but for me they looked quite lame. I am quite sceptical about what people here call violence, having seen and been close to some real violence. Eight people were arrested and they call that violence? When George Bush went to India, eight people died ( or thirty). Now that's violence. By comparision, the Sydney protests are not even scuffles.

I watched once a real protest ( and they do happen in Sydney) when the Vietnamese were protesting a visiting Vietnam dignitary. The whole of CBD was filled up and by what I saw on TV, the Cheney protests didn't garner much more protesters either. But the Vietnamese didn't stop traffic, they did not taunt the police and did not break in any violence and to think the whole Sydney mafia ( yes there is one) is controlled by them ! That's protesting.

What Stop The War, the Greenies and others showed was that they lack in muscle and brains, they make up in shrillness.

Which brings us to back to me. I had desperately wanted to show my support to the Great Man but well I couldn't. I know, it makes me one of those people who spout big things but never follow up, what are they called? Still, this picture which I copied from Ace says it all :

Morale boosters of the day

February 20th 2007 17:20
The Bush Administration has won a huge legal victory when an Appeals court upheld the contention of the administration that Guantanamo detainess should not have access to federal courts. This may be challenged again and the Democrats are threatening to change the law once again but still it's a victory for the Administration.

Dunno why, but have been hearing some unusual voices lately. First from Newsbusters site, Bob Woodward, yes, he who would not even spare dead presidents from the usual anti-war buzz, yes, the same man apaprently said this:
One of the things that we forget as we’re caught in the heat of the current debate: this is a legal war. The Congress three to one in 2002 said, gave Bush the right to go to war. He decided to do it. So, you know what really amazes me is that Bush, and Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid don’t get together and say, “We’ve got to come up with a bipartisan strategy and consensus on this.” We’re all in to a certain extent in this war. And we owe it to the troops.

The rest of the discussion is pretty amazing too. As is that were not enough, Simon Jenkins of the Guardian, apparently said this, "for retreat to be tolerable it must be called victory." (hTip: EUReferendum) Though that comes embedded in the usual tripe about how the war has converted Iraq into "the most hellish paace on earth" and the military have brought bloodshed and a misery worse than under the most ruthless modern dictator."

Really, he underestimates modern dictators. An endemic problem of the Left. Still, the quote is still worth something.

And it is too soon to call, but judging from the blogs, the Surge is working.

Democrats Snubbed. Twice.

February 18th 2007 15:48
Democrats have failed and failed twice, in getting a resolution passed in the Senate criticising the Surge. But, you don't find any headlinessaying Democrats were "snubbed" or "refuted", the choice words they used to describe Pres. Bush, when they sneaked in a pitiful resolution in the House.

Here's, the conservative bloggers joomla site, The Victory Caucus, staking their position for the next election in Where Do we Go From Here?

Ahead of Dick Chency's visit to Australia, The Australian's Janet Albrechtsen has a passionate and free flowing piece on the dangers of Anti- Americanism which has descended from being irrational to being absolutely insane. Go read it all.

BY all means unfurl the banners, dust off the placards and prop up the distorted effigies of George W. Bush. Start practising those chants of "Down with America" and "America, the Great Satan" and stop bathing and brushing your hair (a less commented on pre-requisite for some protesters) for another anti-American protest. With US Vice-President Dick Cheney in Australia next week, it's not an opportunity to be missed for those who hate the US

What's Barak Obama afraid of?

February 13th 2007 23:08
Click here for the subtle media spin which is deleting all references to Mr.Obama's past as a Muslim. Well, Barack Obama went to an Indonesian madrassa and no matter how much Jon Stewart spins it's a school, it's still a Islamist school. So, was he a Muslim or not? No one knows clearly. When asked whether he was a Muslim, he said believes in Christ now and and is a Member of some Church nobody heard of.

This reminds me of another media peculiarities when it comes to describing him. They keep referring him to as the first black president. His mother is white, so wouldn't that make him half-white in the least? So why keep harping on the black identity, as if its total when it's not, if not to play on identity politics

John Howard tells it like it is

February 12th 2007 08:39
It takes somebody of John Howard's calibre to state the truth and tell the world that a win for the Democrats is a win for Al-qaeda. It's a self-evident truth. Senator Osama aka Obama reacted very badly to it but he should cease to ponder why a man who pretty much keeps out of American politics, who is one of America's staunchest allies has had to say such shocking but self-evident truths? In stead of summarily dismissing Howard's claims, Obama should mediate on them.

Some U.S. lawmakers seem to be unhappy with PM's remarks. I don't see why. They never reacted when Kofi Annan conspired to nuke John Bolton or sundry EU leaders shoot their mouths off. And what John Howard has said is unquestionably true. When the Democrats won the minor COngressional elections last year, every terrorist outfit from Hamas to Al-Qaeda expressed its joy and declared that the Democrats owe their success to them. If that's the case, why won't they be happy when the Democrats win a Presidential Election

The Supposed Flap of John Howard

February 8th 2007 12:22
Unemployment rate in Australia is at its lowest level in 31 years. Yep, a freaking thirty one years. If John Howard's Industrial Relations act was so bad, how is this happening? Did the televison networks take note of the fact and credit the Prime Minister? NO! And just yesterday, they were all over the supposed flap John Howard made over global warming when he said "the jury was out on global warming " even suggesting that the mighty Howard's invincibility has cracked and all the Coalition members are in panic and running over him. And that one tone mynah bird Kevin Rudd supposedly did not panic at all after his flap when a farmer he talked to refused to buy the global warming fairy tale or over the divisions between him and Julia Guillard. Nothing wrong on that front.

Bottomline: Write off John Howard at your own cost

The Fall of the Washington

February 5th 2007 02:24
Michael Gawenda of SMH thinks Democrats current strategy is dishonorable, not because they are playing cat and mouse games with Bush by issuing non-binding resolutions but because they haven't gone directly for the kill and stop the funding for the war. They are not being principled enough.

But in his tirade, there is this little gem

Hugo Chavez officially a dictotor

February 1st 2007 01:55
The chickens are coming to roost. Now that all those anti-American antics have paid off, Hugo Chavez is going to do what every would-be dictator dreams to do. It's official. Hugo Chavez is a dictator. He's going to assume full and unbridled powers and nationalise oil companies. As of now, its only for next 18 months but which dictator has given up power once he has acquired it? It also shows that anti-Americanism is just a cynical cover for power grab. As with Putin, so with Chavez. At least there is a sense of tragedy about Putin's Russia, a sense of missed opportunities. But with Chavez one can only laugh a sardonic laugh.
